|NYC NONPROFIT ASSISTANCE
Mayor Bloomberg outlined new initiatives to help New York City's more than 40,000 cultural, health and social service nonprofit organizations face challenges heightened by the economic downturn. A growing number of nonprofit organizations in New York City - which collectively employ more than 490,000 New Yorkers or 15 percent of the City's workforce - are experiencing an increase in client needs while facing declines in financial resources. To address these challenges, the City's plan will reduce nonprofit organizations' fixed costs, enhance the responsiveness and efficiency of City contracting procedures and facilitate building new partnerships for stronger nonprofits.
