-- Live Town Meeting at Discovery Communications World Headquarters to Include 9/11 Family Members, Administration Officials and Civil Libertarians --

-- Results of Discovery Channel/TIME Magazine National Security Poll Released Live at Town Meeting --

(Silver Spring, MD) – Ted Koppel begins his groundbreaking Discovery Channel series, KOPPEL ON DISCOVERY, with a three-hour primetime special THE PRICE OF SECURITY on Sunday, September 10 at 8 PM ET/PT. Integral to the special and the live town meeting are interviews with current and former administration members – including Secretary of State Condelezza Rice, Former Secretary of Homeland Security Tom Ridge, and Presidential advisor Karen Hughes. Koppel also interviews military and security experts, including the man who oversees the 9/11 detainees at Guantanamo Bay, Admiral Harry Harris, as he explores the dilemma the government faces in the war on terrorism.

The government has been criticized for not doing enough to “connect the dots,” but it is also being assailed by civil libertarians for undermining the freedoms on which the United States was founded. Koppel sorts through these critical issues facing Americans and their lawmakers, succinctly bringing viewers all sides of the national debate.

Following the broadcast of KOPPEL ON DISCOVERY - THE PRICE OF SECURITY, Koppel will host a live town meeting at Discovery Communications World Headquarters in Silver Spring, Maryland, with 9/11 family members, civil libertarians, Administration officials and Members of the 9/11 Commission to discuss what lies ahead for America and the delicate balance between national security and individual liberties.

Among those scheduled to participate: Paul McNulty, Deputy Attorney General of the U.S.; Rep. Chris Shays, Chairman of House Government Reform Subcommittee on National Security, Emerging Threat and International Relations; Tom Ridge, Former Secretary of Homeland Security; Gen. Tony Zinni, former Chief, CENTCOM; Ted Olson, former Solicitor General, member of Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board; Gov. Tom Kean, Chair, 9/11 Commission; and Lee Hamilton, Vice-Chair, 9/11 Commission.

"The experts are all but unanimous: there will be another terrorist attack on the United States,” said Ted Koppel, Managing Editor, Discovery Channel. “When that happens, the opportunity for rational discussion and debate will be over. That's why we feel it's so urgent to address this issue now."

The live town meeting immediately following the PRICE OF SECURITY broadcast provides a high-tech forum for viewers to ask policymakers questions about the state of security and civil rights in America through koppelondiscovery.com. Starting on Tuesday, September 5 and continuing through the live broadcast on September 10, people can submit questions via the website.

Also at the live town meeting, Ted Koppel will release results of a Discovery Channel/TIME magazine poll that asked Americans what individual liberties they are willing to give up - or not give up - in the name of national security. This poll is a follow-up to one that was taken by TIME magazine soon after the September 11 attacks.
