We would like to thank Councilmen Oddo and Ignizio for helping to get the word out about waivers for graffiti removal.

See link to articles below.

We have been doing our best over the past month and appreciate the help.

What is important to know is to fax the waiver back to Councilman Oddo’s Office at 718-980-1051 or to us at 718-966-6515.

If you fax it back to the Mayor’s Office it will be included with waivers from all of the other boroughs.

We will send a copy to the Mayor’s Office but will try to handle all of these requests through our program with the help of the 3 local precincts.

We will also refer sites we cannot do to the Borough President’s Clean Team.

Councilman Oddo’s Office has been supplying us with copies of the waivers he has received and we have already cleaned up a few of the sites.

Over the past 3 weeks we have cleaned nearly twenty sites (including the entire New Springville Little League) and have completed one mural and have another in progress.

We hope to hit quite a few sites this weekend as the weather forecast looks good.

We would also like to thank Victoria Larsen of the Mayor’s Office as she has arranged for us to get paint for future cleanups and has also arranged for pickup here on Staten Island. Victoria continues to do a great job addressing the issues of Staten Island.

Our repeated calls to SIBOR have gone unanswered. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. We want the realtors on Staten Island to get us waivers on the many unoccupied homes and businesses that are covered in graffiti, particularly the many gas stations and the old amusement park on Sand Lane.

If they get us the waivers we can coordinate cleanups.

The response to our Adopt a Block has been under whelming to say the least. We have only heard back officially from one school and one community group.

As we have been saying all along we cannot do this alone. This needs to be an all out effort.

We are still looking for a venue for our Town Hall Meeting which we would like to have one evening in early May. We will discuss the “Changing the face of Staten Island” Graffiti Removal Program, let people know how they can get involved and hopefully have representatives from our schools and civic groups. We are looking for volunteers to help coordinate.

We have not heard back from any of our major stores (Home Depot, Lowes and Target) or from any local businesses for that matter.

If we had an industrial power washer and a paint sprayer we could do 10 times the locations we are doing now.

We were also wondering if any group would like to help sponsor a table at the SIEDC SI Conference on April 29. We could get the word out about the program and get waivers signed.

We will continue to speak a community and civic groups and hopefully our ranks will grow.

“TAG YOU'RE IT”

Dennis
