To date we have cleaned up almost 30 locations. The waivers are coming in fast and furious and we have nearly fifty locations on our pending list.

Councilman Oddo’s office continues to do a great job collecting and forwarding them so we can get them in our database and on the cleanup schedule.

We have been asked to move out our “Tag You’re It” event as there are many little league openings and other events that are preventing people who want to volunteer.

The event will be moved out two weeks (as next week police will be busy with the Pope’s visit).

So please mark your Calendars for April 26th or 27th

We are looking for teams or groups of volunteers.

We will supply the locations and all the necessary supplies.

We will be working with all three precincts and hope to cleanup a significant number of sites.

So if you are a member of a civic or community organization, school or just a Staten Islander who is sick and tired of what is going on please give us a call at 718-966-6531 or e-mail us at 718-966-6531.

Also we are looking for some of our elected officials to pull together some of their campaign volunteers to help out as part of our “Campaigning For Our Community” Program.

Maybe we should have a competition between the Young Democrats and Young Republicans to see who can clean up the most locations.

We are also thinking about filming our PSA during this event.

Update will be posted at www.where-to-turn.org

We saw in today’s Advance that a 17 year old offender was caught yesterday which is good news.

The bad news is that there were 16 new reports of acts of graffiti vandalism on the South Shore alone yesterday.

I spoke with Joan Cusack the Commissioner of NYS Crime Victims and she will be sending information on how seniors can get reimbursed for graffiti clean ups of their homes.

Three things I already know

Senior must be 60 or older.

Property must be in the senior’s name

Maximum reimbursement is $500

I will post all of the details and make them available as soon as I receive them.

We will also be distributing similar senior reimbursements available for car break ins.

We will be out this weekend again as we like to clean up at least 10 sites each week so if you are available give us a shout.

We have still not heard back from Home Depot or Lowes or any other business or foundation about support.

We could be doing so much more if we had the proper equipment.

We did place a call into the Borough president’s Clean Team to talk about coordinating cleanups so that they can concentrate on the larger power wash sites.

We are waiting to hear back from them………AND YOU.

p.s. If you haven’t gotten a chance make it a point to check out the two murals. One on the corner of Midland and Colony anf the other at the New Springville Little League. You will not be disappointed Annette Wong Riordan and Scott Lobaido did a fantastic job
