We would like to start by thanking Councilman Oddo who along with Councilman Vallone of Queens have co-sponsored a bill that would make contractors responsible for graffiti at construction sites. (see link below)

Only efforts like this will help us alleviate the graffiti problem. Offenders often begin on sites like this as they feel it is a victimless crime. They soon move on to commercial properties and before you know it they are spray painting your house.

We also need the City Council to put pressure on the mayor to lean on Corporate Council to make community service and restitution mandatory in sentencing in juvenile cases in Family Court.

Finally we need to have the Sanitation Department begin to issue summonses to locations that do not either remove graffiti or submit waivers giving us permission to remove it,

We can supply them with numerous locations where neighbors have requested cleanups but lack of waivers have prevented us from doing so.

I called Lowes to follow up on the grant application. It appears that they have misplaced the application and have asked me to resubmit, which I did.

Lowes now has a process to match any paint from a sample so we will be able to match the paint of locations as long as the property can supply is with something showing the color.

We strongly recommended that property owners keep a small amount of the color of their buildings so we can match the paint through this process.

We have not gotten any further with the Clean Team truck and we have now wasted 6 weeks of cleanups as our lists of locations needing its service grows.

We need some help from our elected officials to make the tuck available to all the precincts.

In the meantime Where to Turn will be purchasing an industrial power washer this week as we can no longer wait on the truck.

And you wonder why people get frustrated. This money could be put to better use but we have no choice.

One of the locations that were cleaned has been hit again but we will go out on Sunday to paint it over.

We will also be scheduling some night cleanups to paint over security gates and locations that we cannot do during the day.

We will work with the precincts to see if they could supply transport.

We would like to paint some American flag murals before Memorial Day but we need some sponsors. We will put up $500 towards each mural.

We need some donors to do the same.

Almost 80 locations completed and we plan to have well over 100 completed by the end of May

A schedule of volunteer outings will be posted on our site at the end of the week. Volunteers are needed.

The Criminal Courts continue to send their offenders to us and they have participated in over 25 cleanups.

We still need a venue for our Town Hall Meeting any help would be greatly appreciated.

No cleanups this Saturday but we will be out Sunday morning.

We will be speaking at Arlington Community Association on Thursday night at 8:00 PM

Any input or suggestions are welcome and please try to get your schools involved.
