Dear Supporters of the National September 11 Memorial & Museum:

With all of the news about the World Trade Center site, I wanted to update you about the status of the Memorial. The new Executive Director of the Port Authority released a report yesterday on the rebuilding, outlining a new decision-making process to ensure that the completion dates for all of the World Trade Center projects are achievable and realistic. I was heartened that the Port Authority, as the construction manager of the project, acknowledges the importance of the 10th anniversary of 9/11. The level of transparency that is being committed to opens an opportunity for decisions to be made and priorities to be set that will expedite progress on the Memorial. Rest assured that the signature design of the Memorial will not change during this process, and construction continues in full swing.

While aggressive, we believe it is both possible and essential that the Memorial be open to the public by the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. Given the complexities in rebuilding the site, we understand that public access to the Memorial will be challenging at that time. However, we will be exploring all options to mitigate the impact of ongoing construction.

As stewards of this historic Memorial, we will be advocating for appropriate actions to be taken so that by the 10th anniversary we have a Memorial that is permanently open to families and visitors from around the world.

As our Chairman, Mayor Bloomberg, has said, getting this tremendously important tribute right is our highest obligation. Thank you for your continued support.

Best Regards,

Joe Daniels
