Today we went out and cleaned up the Lemon Creek Bridge site that was identified in the Advance last week.

We were able to mix our remaining paint together to come up with the colors.

We are now officially out of all colors except gray and a little red.

The mayor’s office has agreed to give us ten gallons of every color to continue and we hope to have the voucher this week.

What was remarkable about today’s cleanup was that it was completed with only four people.

We had two teenagers doing court ordered service along with Rob Hagen and myself.

Rob is quite possibly the best volunteer that I have ever worked with.

I was working the cement topside with the teenagers working underneath and Rob handled the entire metal side sections wading across the creek to complete the center sections. (see link to photos below).

Please note that this was work was repeated on the other side of the bridge as well.

As I mentioned last week we have made an agreement with the mayor’s office to handle the paint overs and they will handle the power washing until we get the clean team truck back in service.

We are still running into the problem of wasting time going to sites that are already completed.

We have asked the 123 and 122 precincts to verify locations during the week to avoid this issue. (we are still trying to get a contact in the 120)

For next week we are asking any graffiti victim on Staten Island that has submitted a waiver for a paint over and is still waiting to call us at 718-966-6531 to let us know what type of surface needs to be painted and what color.

We are also asking all store owners who have had their pull down gates graffitied to call us as well.

We are putting together a team for next Sunday morning and hope to handle all sites that are called in.

Hopefully our media friends will get the word out but we ask you to pass it along as well.

If you would like to join the effort please give us a call.

Finally Scott is finishing the 5th mural in our “Flags Across Staten Island” Program and we will have photos tomorrow.
