WHAT: A Press Conference to introduce the first Flashcam anti-graffiti device

to be deployed on Staten Island and to recognize those who have supported

our efforts to combat graffiti.

WHEN: Friday March 6

TIME: 1:00 PM

WHERE: Community Board 2 (Lou Caravone Community Service Building)

460 Brielle Ave

Staten Island, NY 10314

In the spring of 2008 many members of the community met to discuss the

growing problem of graffiti on Staten Island.

Over the past year working together with the courts, the NYPD, the

District Attorney's Office, the Mayor's Community Affairs Unit, the

Borough President's Clean Team, local elected officials and community

groups we have been able to clean up 800 of the reported 885 graffiti

incidents reported in 2008.

All involved have worked hard in catching the offenders. We created a

program that gave the courts the ability to sentence offenders to

community service where they would clean graffiti in the neighborhoods

hit the hardest all over Staten Island.

During 2008 offenders performed over 1,000 hours of community

service removing graffiti.

Also through the Flags Across Staten Island program Scott LoBaido has

painted 28 American Flag murals at constantly tagged locations and not

one has been tagged.

Please join us as we introduce our latest tool in our fight against graffiti

and to thank those involved who have gone the extra mile to improve the

quality of life on Staten Island and learn of our ongoing plans to continue

the fight to make Staten Island graffiti free.
