It is Friday the 13th and we hope that it will be the first of many unlucky days for Staten Island graffiti vandals.

We are currently gearing up to be both proactive and reactive to the graffiti problem.

We have purchased and will install our first Flashcam cameras this weekend.

To learn more about these units click the links below for stories in both the Advance and on NY1 News.

There are 137 reportedly tagged locations and we will be addressing them on a weekly basis.

We will be out tomorrow with the 122 and have made a deal with the Mayor’s CAU that we will handle the paintovers so that they can concentrate on the power washing.

We have purchased a used pick up truck for the cleanups and picked up paint in Queens today as we were told there was none left on Staten Island.

We hope to clean up at least 15 locations this weekend including the entire back wall of PathMark in Great Kills.

If you have been following the news the Graffiti Task Force has been doing a great job and has caught a few of the makor taggers.

They have also made quite a few arrests that have not made the papers.

The DA’s Office and the courts are also doing a great job now requiring community service, restitution and in some cases jail time for those caught.

Finally Scott has completed mural 29 dedicated to deceased Police Officer Rocco Laurie (see photo below)

We currently have funds for one more and have tentative commitments for two others (firehouse and bus depot).

We need more sponsors as Memorial Day id right around the corner.

We will Keep you updated.
