MEDIA ALERT
13,000 bottles of water collected for Haitian civilians

On Sunday, January 17, 2010 in less than five hours hours, approximately 13,000 bottles of water were collected by generous shoppers, putting Staten Island on the map for philanthropic efforts toward Haiti. Spearheading the effort at Path Mark on Forest Avenue were Anthony R. Gaeta Democratic Club members Samantha Giordano and Dominick R. DeRubbio who collected cases of bottled water, soap, blankets, tents, sleeping bags, feminine products, gauze and medical tape in a last minute attempt to help non profit Charity:Water’s initiative to send supplies to Haiti on Tuesday, January 19th.
With the help and generosity of John Sollazzo, the Anthony R. Gaeta Democratic Club raised overnight awareness for the current crisis in Haiti. Where To Turn’s Dennis McKeon contributed 110 cases of water and was on hand all day to ensure a smooth transition. After the collection, Young Democrat Richmond County Volunteers Kelvin Elkins and Julienne Verdi and friends Bill Lynch, James DeRubbio and Dominick DeRubbio Sr. helped transport a packed UHAUL truck to Charity:Water’s Manhattan location.
In addition to bottled water over 500 boxes of soap were collected as well as hundreds of feminine hygiene products, approximately 100 blankets, tents and sleeping bags and dozens of containers of medical supplies– all of which are being brought to Haiti via plane on Tuesday (water will be shipped).
Special thanks to PathMark, RadioShack & Staples for their patience and dedication, and to Paul Cinquemani, Ali Gaeta, Tom Aiello, Sam Rafferty & Cathy DeRubbio for their generosity and time.
