We began our regular graffiti cleanups this morning and with the help of PO Reinhold and 10 court ordered helpers we were able to clean up 20 tagged locations.

We will be out 3 weekends a month from now until October and look to surpass last years total of 325 cleaned locations.

Over 300 court ordered offenders have served their community service requirements through our program over the past two years and only 2 have been rearrested.

We will be putting together a graffiti town hall meeting in June to let Staten Islanders know how to combat graffiti and how to arrange to get it removed.

We will also be distributing 3 anti graffiti Q Star systems to the 3 precincts on the Island which we purchased with grants from Senator Savino, Assemblyman Tobacco and Councilman Ignizio.

In the meantime if you have a tagged location in your neighborhood all you need to do is call the address into 311 and either the mayor’s CAU or Where to Turn will clean it up at no charge.

We also have some non chemical remover which will remove graffiti from vinyl fences without damaging the finish.

Finally we are looking for some local businesses to join our Strike Out Graffiti Program.

We are asking them to donate one dollar each time a Staten Island pitcher strikes out a batter this season.

All funds collected will be used to buy paint and supplies for future cleanups.
