-First stop: the White House, to call on President Obama to speak out and get personally involved in the effort to pass the Zadroga Act-

December 18, 2010

Dear Mr. President Obama,

My daddy, police officer Robert Helmke NYPD, died after 9/11 from getting sick from the work he did there. I was only 3 years old and my brother Garrett was 5. We sometimes forget him and cry because we do not see him anymore, but our mommy helps us remember him every day! We went down to Washington in September to help pass the 9/11 health bill through Congress. My mommy told my daddy's story about how sick he got and how he was so brave.

My mommy explained to us that the 9/11 health bill still has to pass through the Senate and we do not understand why it is taking so long to pass. She can't answer our questions. She told our daddy's story, Senator Gillibrand told our daddy's story, our closest friends are other kids whose daddy's and mommies died after 9/11 to, they are sad like us. I see how sad my mommy gets because she does not understand why the 9/11 health bill has not passed through the Senate yet.

The 9/11 Health Bill is for my daddy and other people who died. It is for all the sick people who need it now, they can't wait. I asked my mommy if I could write you a letter so that you can tell me why.

From,

Amelia Helmke
