Schumer, Nadler call for crackdown on makers of phony 9/11 commemorative coins; COMPANY IS raking in MILLIONS from national tragedy and robbing 9/11 memorial of much needed funds

National Collectors Mint, Convicted Of Fraud In 2004, Is Peddling New 10th Anniversary 9/11 Coin That Deliberatively Misleads Buyers And Makes Profit by Preying On Americans Memories Of That Tragic Day

Schumer, Nadler Passed Legislation Authorizing Official 9/11 Medals, With Proceeds Going to the National September 11th Memorial & Museum; Every Dollar Spent On Phony Coins Is Two Less For Memorial

Schumer, Nadler: No One Should Be Profiting Off of 9/11

U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer and U.S. Representative Jerrold Nadler, MONDAY, JANUARY 24 AT 11:15AM, called on the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to take immediate action to stop companies from peddling phony 9/11 commemorative coins and profiting off of 9/11. Their call comes in response to recent advertisements for a new 10th anniversary coin minted by the company National Collectors Mint. The ads for the coin deliberatively mislead customers into believing that they are government sanctioned and made with silver from Ground Zero. Schumer and Nadler passed legislation in July that created an official 9/11 medal to assist in the establishment of the 9/11 Memorial. They will note that every dollar spent on these phony coins is two dollars that could have gone to the National September 11th Memorial & Museum. The company producing the phony coins was also fined for a similar scam in 2004. Schumer and Nadler will also request the United States Mint post notice on its website alerting consumers to the phony coins.
