WASHINGTON, D.C. This week, Congressman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), the representative of Ground Zero, Congressman Peter King (R-NY), and Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) requested that the House Leadership organize a special congressional trip to New York City in September to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the attacks of 9/11.
In a letter to Speaker John Boehner and Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, the three Members wrote: A visit to New York to view the opening of The National September 11 Memorial & Museum on the 10 year anniversary would send a strong message to the nation and to the world that, 10 years later, we remain unified; that the spirit of New York City and the nation are strong and unshaken; that our commitment to freedom has never wavered; and that we will always honor and remember the victims, first responders, survivors and their families.

Dear Speaker Boehner and Leader Pelosi,
We are writing to request that you convene a special Congressional delegation visit to New York to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack on our nation.
A visit to New York to view the opening of The National September 11 Memorial & Museum on the 10 year anniversary would send a strong message to the nation and to the world that, 10 years later, we remain unified; that the spirit of New York City and the nation are strong and unshaken; that our commitment to freedom has never wavered; and that we will always honor and remember the victims, first responders, survivors and their families.
This visit would allow Members of Congress to pay their respect to the victims and to show their constituents back home many of whom have been personally affected by 9/11 their steadfast support for the values and strengths of our great nation. The commemoration of 9/11 will remind us that freedom always triumphs over the forces of fear, hatred and divisiveness. By coming to New York on the 10th anniversary in a bipartisan show of strength and unity, we can remind the world who we are as a nation.
We have already discussed this idea with Mayor Bloomberg and Governor Cuomo, and they are very much supportive of hosting the Congress.
We plan on scheduling tours of the 9/11 Museum and Ground Zero, and inviting Members to participate in the official ceremonies along with 9/11 families, responders and survivors. We look forward to working with you and your staff as we plan this commemoration. Please contact Robert Gottheim in the office of Congressman Nadler to further discuss ways we can work together to make this delegation visit a success. Thank you.
Congressman Jerrold Nadler
Congressman Peter King
Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney
