The FealGood Foundation calls on the President to stop the Sequester of 9/11 Funds
Today, the New York Delegation sent a letter to the Office of Management and Budget ("OMB") asking it to reconsider its decision to subject the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act to sequestration.
On behalf of the FealGood Foundation and 9/11 First Responders, Survivors and area residents we thank the New York Delegation for its continued support, and we call on President Obama to join our fight to have the OMB to change its position.
Mr. President, Congress failed in its responsibility to care for 911 responders and survivors for years until it was browbeaten to act. In order to ensure the bills passage it was severely cut back at the final hour. Now, the OMB proposes millions of dollars of additional cuts under sequestration. This is simply uncalled for, unneeded and unconscionable. The Zadroga Act is not only fully paid for by a dedicated federal revenue stream but also provides an additional $433 million towards deficit reduction. With the National Institute of Occupational Safety & Health's (NIOSH) decision to include cancers for coverage under the Act, Zadroga needs more funding, not less.
On the eleventh anniversary of September 11th we heard speeches from various elected officials saying that they "would never forget 9/11." We urge you, Mr. President, to put these words into action. Please tell the OMB to not subject the Zadroga Act to sequestration.
Mr. President, we are sick & dying, but we are not going away. We marched the halls of Congress for almost a decade. And we are prepared to march again.
When is it enough? When does the 9/11 community get a chance to truly start the healing process?
The FealGood Foundation
