From Jimmy Oddo

Here's the latest information we have received form the MTA:

Following are the current detours for Staten Island Express buses, Mon-Fri service. The detours are subject to change depending on access to the Holland Tunnel:

Manhattan-bound
...
X1-X9, X10C, X14, X15 and X17C use Manhattan Bridge

X10B, X11, X17A, X19 and X42 use Holland Tunnel

X12, X17J, X22, X22A, X30 and X31 use Lincoln Tunnel

Staten Island-bound

X1-X9, X10C, X14, X15 and X17C use Manhattan Bridge

X10B, X11, X12, X17A, X19 and X42 use Holland Tunnel

X17J, X22, X22A X30 and X31 use Lincoln Tunnel

Saturday and Sunday express bus service will use the Manhattan Bridge in both directions.

Starting tomorrow morning, Friday, November 9, in an effort to mitigate delays, we will be temporarily splitting the scheduled service on the X7, X9, X10B and X14 combination routes, to either downtown or uptown service. Customers using these routes should check the route desitination sign to see if the bus is going uptown or downtown.

Uptown trips will travel via Canal Street to 6th Avenue and regular route uptown.

Downtown trips will travel via Canal Street to Broadway and then regular route downtown

The last scheduled trips on these routes will make both uptown and downtown stops.

Customers who get on an uptown bus on one of these routes can also get off the bus at Canal and Broadway and transfer to a downtown bus.

We are very aware that our express bus customers have encountered considerable delays over the past week due to the closure of the Carey Tunnel and subsequent rerouting of buses via the Manhattan Bridge and NJ.

In addition changing traffic and weather conditions are impacting the temporary reroutes, which may result in further delays as we try to make service. As we explained in an earlier email, buses delayed on their first trip to S.I. or Manhattan results in a delay in making the second trip. We have been giving priority to express service knowing that these routes are taking on customers that might normally use the #1 and R trains from South Ferry or who have been impacted by the gas shortage. However, the number of buses we can put out in service is limited by the size of our fleet, so we must schedule service accordingly.

We are making every effort to update the service advisories on the MTA website as they change. We encourage customers to check both mta.info and MTA Bus Time before heading to their bus stop.
