Sandy Holiday Toy Store Update 12/5
I got a call from a woman in New Jersey who used to be a Staten Island resident. She told her young daughter what Sandy did.
Her daughter wanted to do something and heard about our project.
She ran a toy drive and her mother dropped off 65 toys today.
That as they say is what this is all about.
NY1 News filmed a segment tonight at the site.
They wanted to show the site before we started turning it into a Toy Store.
They will also promote the store and hopefully cover the opening.
I got a call from the Carl Bini Foundation and they are going to supply us with 10 folding tables.
They are also going to supply some candy.
Our good friend Joan Chelsen was able to get 4 shelving units.
I ordered signs for the posts on Amboy Road.
We get the key tomorrow and we will start moving the toys over (then at least I will be able to move in my apartment)
We will begin set up Friday night at 5:30. We need brooms and dustpans.
What we still need
Volunteers for weekdays between 11:00 and 5:00
A few more shelving units
We also need gift cards for the older kids or monetary donations so that we can purchase discount movie tickets.
We should be sending out a press release tomorrow and the grand opening is still scheduled for noon on Saturday.
Keep spreading the word and thanks for the help.
I have attached a volunteer sheet if you would like to help out.
PROM DRESSES FOR SANDY VICTIMS
I know you may think that it is a little early for this but I want to catch the college kids before they go home for the break.
Every year we run a Prom Dresses for all through which we collect used prom dresses have them dry cleaned and make them available to girls who cannot afford them.
Come May I am sure that there will be a lot more girls in that situation.
So I am asking any young lady who has a prom dress that she is never going to re-use to donate it to Where to Turn and we will get it to a needy Sandy victim so that they will not miss out on their prom.
We will begin collecting in January while we are running our Re-Gifting for a Good Cause Program. See details below.
Prom dresses can be dropped off at
150-L Greaves Lane # 312
Staten Island NY 10308
Or if your school would like to collect we will come and pick them up.
