Sandy Holiday Toy Store Update

DAY ONE

Thank you to everyone who volunteered today. Our first day was a great success.

Over 75 families visited the store and we distributed nearly 500 toys

.

The smiles on the kid's faces made our day....We really need your help to keep this going.

I need 2-3 adult volunteers each day this week.

12 to 5 would be the hours anyone available please get back to me.

Secondly if today is any indication we are going to need more toys.

I ask all of my local friends to stop by the store with just one toy.

This one act of kindness will enable us to bring a smile to the smallest Sandy victims.

Please share this with your friends and ask them to do the same.

Thank you for your continued support.

DAY TWO

We finished our first weekend with another 50 families turning up today.

We distributed over 200 toys brining our total distributed to nearly 650.

Special thanks to Stacey, Danny, Kelly, Diana and Ron who volunteered at the store today.

We received toys from a church in New Jersey as well as from ATU Local 726.

People dropped by all day with toys but the distribution far exceeded the collection.

I received a call from a boy scout who is coordinating a drive and will deliver them on Saturday.

Also received a call from a friend who is trying to get schools upstate united in a big drive for us.

Also Scott stopped by and he is going to create one of his tin foils sculptures outside the shop next Saturday.

Now that is a not to miss event.

That being said we still need toys.

I would like to thank Scott from Thrift Card and Gift Shop for all his support of our store.

I am really disappointed in Toys R Us and the other major toy stores who have completely ignored our requests.

We still need adult volunteers this week from Noon to 5:00 PM if anyone has free time please let me know.

Even if you can't volunteer please consider dropping by with a toy or just to see the shop.

Looking forward to a great week and thanks for your continued support.

I have attached a volunteer sheet if you would like to help out.

DAY 3

Another day and another 32 families were able to pick up 125 toys for their children

In total we have distributed 775 toys.

We had a constant flow of customers and a pretty good influx of toys

Representatives of Christmas with Sandy dropped by with bags of toys.

We also got a generous donation from Bob Joyce from Joyce’s Tavern.

We purchased another 50 movie tickets so that we have something for the older kids.

Although we haven’t gotten much media attention other than the Advance and NY1 News word seems to be getting out because we got a call from a group in Alabama. They have toys cash to donate and want to come up to help out and bring home baked cookies for the kids.

We are getting the toys collected from Rescue 5 and Monsignor Farrell this week and St. Joseph Hill and St. Peters are also collecting.

We still need volunteers and toys because as word of mouth spreads we expect the demand to really increase.

Scott LoBaido will be constructing one of his tin foil sculptures this Saturday why don’t you stop by. He also has some friends from Ohio that are sending money so we can buy additional toys.

We will keep you posted.

PROM DRESSES FOR SANDY VICTIMS

I know you may think that it is a little early for this but I want to catch the college kids before they go home for the break.

Every year we run a Prom Dresses for all through which we collect used prom dresses have them dry cleaned and make them available to girls who cannot afford them.

Come May I am sure that there will be a lot more girls in that situation.

So I am asking any young lady who has a prom dress that she is never going to re-use to donate it to Where to Turn and we will get it to a needy Sandy victim so that they will not miss out on their prom.

We will begin collecting in January while we are running our Re-Gifting for a Good Cause Program. See details below.

Prom dresses can be dropped off at

150-L Greaves Lane # 312
Staten Island NY 10308

Or if your school would like to collect we will come and pick them up.
