Our mission is two fold:

To determine what could have been in place prior to the storm both physically and governmentally to limit the damage of Sandy

To determine what needs to be in place to better serve the victims and our community after a storm.


Prior to the Storm


Construction of Jetties and or Sea Walls

Possible Sea Gate at Great Hills Harbor

Better Protection of Natural Buffers and Barriers

Expansion of the Blue Belt

Better preventive and Proactive Planning by Parks Dept and Federal Government (Gateway National Park)

Better Flood Zone Mapping

Stricter Control of Building Permits

Stricter Control Over Waivers and Variances

Better Supervision of Building Department

Better Supervision of Developers

Better Education and Training Programs Involving Local Schools, Civic and Community Groups

AFTER THE STORM

Better Lines of Communication Immediately After the Storm

Availability of a Comprehensive Needs Assessment Form to be Administered by Previously Appointed Block Captains and Brought to a Central Depository (Repeat at Agreed Upon Intervals)

Better Response From Utility Companies

Better Coordination Between Local Officials FEMA and Relief Organizations

Better Monitoring of Collection and Distribution of Donations

Year Round Central Warehouse to Stockpile Non Perishable Supplies

Pre-Established Network of Hubs with Generator Power and Walk in Refrigerator Freezers

Centralized Web Site for Disaster Information and Frequently Asked Questions

Pre-Determined Areas of Response

Set Up a Network of Schools Where Schools on Staten Island have Sister Schools in Other States From Whom They Can Coordinate Donations



Reform of Banking and Insurance Industries

Temporary Mortgage Relief for Disaster Victims

Overhaul of the Building Dept. Holding Them Responsible for What and Where They Allow Building to Take Place

More Control Over Developers Holding Them Responsible for What They Build

Mold Remediation Standards
