All residents affected by Hurricane Sandy are invited to attend a seminar regarding house raising on Thursday, March 21, 2013 at the Atlantis & Coral Ballrooms at the Holiday Inn in Toms River, New Jersey. Two informational sessions will be offered. The first session will be from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM. The second session will be from 8:00 PM to 9:30 PM. Tickets are FREE, but each session will be limited to 400 guests.
The seminar will give general information about the requirements and processes involved with elevating homes to meet the FEMA Requirements in the V Zone. The main focus of the seminar will be on how to use helical piles to overcome the challenges of retrofitting conventional masonry foundations to pile foundations without moving the home from its footprint.
Presenters at the seminar will include:
J & N Construction and Roofing – J & N Construction is a custom home builder with over 18 years of experience. They have raised several homes throughout the country and was heavily involved in rebuilding the Gulf Coast after Hurricane Katrina. J & N Construction and Roofing has an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau.
Careaga Engineering, Inc. – Careaga Engineering is a full service professional engineering and land surveying firm. Careaga Engineering has over 30 years experience of providing services to thousands of clients throughout New Jersey. Services include Land Use and Zoning Approvals, NJDEP Permitting, Foundation Engineering, and Structural Engineering.
Pier Tech Systems – www.piertech.com Pier Tech Systems is a manufacturer of helical pile systems. Pier Tech has been providing foundation solutions for challenging construction projects for over 10 years. They have developed two pile foundation solutions that meet FEMA Requirements and will allow homes to be raised without moving them from their footprint.
Hayman Engineering, Inc. – Hayman Engineering has been providing structural engineering support to Pier Tech for over 5 years. They have a great knowledge of all of Pier Tech’s products and have worked intimately with Pier Tech on a variety of types of projects.

Superstorm Sandy Tax Assistance Outreach Events:
The Division of Taxation will offer a series of free tax assistance events in areas that suffered severe damage during Superstorm Sandy. Representatives from Taxation, the IRS, and other New Jersey State agencies will be available to help individuals and businesses prepare their 2012 tax returns and to answer questions on other Sandy-related issues.
Taxpayers can pre-register to attend any of the events listed below or request additional information by calling 609-633-6015 and leaving a message or sending an email. Walk-ins are welcome.
A series of tax-assistance events will be offered through March to superstorm Sandy victims in Bergen, Monmouth and Ocean counties.
Organized by the Treasury Department’s Division of Taxation to help individuals and businesses prepare 2012 tax returns, the tax help is supported by the AARP’s Tax-Aide program and the IRS’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. Experts will help with Sandy-related personal and business losses, how to deal with property tax issues caused by Sandy-related damage and how to recover lost tax documents or reconstruct lost personal or business records.

A superstorm Sandy Resource Fair will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. April 11 at the Middletown VFW 2179, located at Route 36 in Port Monmouth. The fair, which is being organized by the Middletown Volunteer Corps, is expected to include representatives from government agencies, non-profits, and relief organizations. Invited participants include FEMA and the SBA; the state departments of Banking and Insurance, Environmental Protection, and Community Affairs; the township’s Building and Planning Departments, Save Big Bread, Inc; and the Visiting Nurse Association. Updated information will be added to the township website at www.middletownnj.org as the event date draws closer.
