From Jul 14, 2013 to Jul 23, 2013 (included)
|Where to Turn 100% supports the bill that Jimmy and Vinny are attempting to get passed in City Council. (see below) This should be passed and needs to be passed but we are also aware that it will be difficult to pass and will also be a long process.
In the meantime we need to get something done now.
When we were doing graffiti cleanups we ran into the same permission issue. We were not permitted to clean graffiti on properties without the owners permission.
The city was able to work some legal magic and changed the process.
The city sent notices to the property owners 30 days to clean up graffiti if they did not comply we were able to do it without permission.
We need the city to work the same magic and get us permission to get teams on these properties and remediate the mold and take care of any other issues posing a threat to the neighborhood.
If Jimmy and Vinny get their bill passed this will be a mute point but while they are trying to get it passed at least we will have a mitigation plan in place.

"One additional important note not discussed in this article. For the last few months my office has been working with the Legal Division of the City Council to find the appropriate legislation that balances fundamental property rights with the need to explicitly empower the City to step in and take action on this mold infested homes. Our bill is before the City Council's General Counsel Office, which is the final step before formal introduction, and Councilman Vinny Ignizio and I hope to be able to have it ready for the July 24 session of the City Council."
